传统观点认为，有机农业虽然有利于环境保护，但可能会因产量下降和生产成本上升而影响经济效益。这种担忧使得许多农民对转向有机种植持观望态度。更令人困扰的是，以往关于有机农业经济绩效的研究往往存在明显局限：要么是基于小规模的个案研究，结论难以推广；要么是方法论上存在缺陷，无法准确识别有机种植的"净效应"。由于有机农场的分布通常存在自选择偏差——那些自然条件更好、经营者素质更高的农场可能更倾向于采用有机方式，简单比较有机与非有机农场的经济指标可能会产生误导。

正是在这样的背景下，由瑞士有机农业研究所(FiBL)和苏黎世联邦理工学院(ETH Zürich)研究人员组成的研究团队，开展了一项迄今为止最全面的欧盟有机农业经济影响评估研究。这项发表在《Q Open》上的研究，通过运用先进的因果推断方法，为我们理解有机农业的真实经济影响提供了前所未有的实证证据。
